According to reports from Autocar, Chery plans to build two automobile factories in Europe, one of which will be located in the United Kingdom. The UK factory will be primarily responsible for the production of right-hand drive vehicles, which will be supplied to the UK domestic market as well as to other countries, including Northern Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

Chery plans to bring its OMODA brand of vehicles to the UK this spring, and the JAECOO brand will also be introduced. Chery’s overseas business is primarily handled by international companies, so the brand lineup is different from that in China. Currently, Chery’s overseas brands include CHERY, EXEED, OMODA, and JAECOO.

Although some automakers have chosen to exit the UK market due to Brexit, Chery believes that the UK market’s annual purchasing power of 2 million new vehicles is sufficient to support its establishment of a factory in the UK.

In addition, Chery is not concerned about the EU’s anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese automobiles. Victor Zhang, the head of Chery UK, said, “Chery is not just trying to compete on price. That’s not what we want to do. We want to prove our strength with good products.” Currently, Chery is attracting consumers with a seven-year warranty on all vehicles.

In the recently released Chery 2023 annual sales data, Chery Group exported 937,148 vehicles in 2023, an increase of 101.1% year-on-year. Since Chery began exporting in 1999, it is currently the second-largest exporter of automobiles among Chinese automakers, with products sold in over 80 countries around the world.
