On August 27, Dongfeng Motor’s “Mengshi” brand was officially released. It will focus on luxury pure electric off-road vehicles brand. In addition to brand LOGO this time, the concept car of the first model also debuted. At the same time, we learned that the Mengshi brand will launch new products from 2023. The M-Terrain concept car is highly close to mass production. It is expected that the mass production version is not much different from the concept car.
In terms of design concept, Mengshi M-Terrain is inspired by the DNA of the Eastern Lion. It skillfully integrates elements such as trend, demeanor, majesty, technology, etc., through the carving of contour features such as the strong forward hood line, the capable upright windshield roof, the sharp-edged shoulder line, and the powerful geometric wheel bag. According to previously exposed information, Dongfeng Mengshi’s first engineering prototype was rolled off the production line in July and is scheduled to be officially put into production in the third quarter of 2023. The new car, code-named M18, will adopt a load-bearing body structure with a body length of more than 5.2 meters. It is positioned as a large SUV. The car will provide a pure electric version and an extended-range hybrid version. The former adopts a six-seat layout, and the latter provides four- and six-seat versions.
In terms of power, the pure electric version is planned to be equipped with an 800kW E-motor, a 140kWh battery, a cruising range of 500km (unknown operating conditions), and an acceleration time of 0-100km/h within 5 seconds; the extended-range hybrid version is equipped with a 600kW E-motor, and the battery is 65.88kWh, the cruising range is 800km (unknown operating conditions), and the 0-100km/h acceleration time is within 6 seconds. In addition, the new car is expected to provide L3-level driver assistance systems.
Restricted by the body structure of the electric vehicle battery in the chassis position, there is still a gap in the off-road vehicle market for electric vehicles. Looking at the world, there are still not many models in related fields. The more representative one is HUMMER EV. This is a good opportunity for Mengshi. On the one hand, the traditional fuel off-road vehicle market, subject to factors such as emissions, is becoming more and more unfriendly to large-displacement vehicles.
