Huawei officially released automotive-grade high-performance lidar products and solutions. This lidar will first be applied to HBT model jointly built by Huawei and ARCFOX (an EV brand from BAIC). It is reported that this car will be launched in 2021.

Compared with millimeter wave radars and cameras, lidars have excellent capabilities in target contour measurement, angle measurement, light stability, and general obstacle detection. In difficult scenarios, such as non-standard pedestrians, non-standard roads, and even non-standard driving behaviors in urban areas, Lidar is urgently needed to solve them. This time, the 96-line mid-to-long range lidar product designed and developed by Huawei can realize the coverage of pedestrian vehicle detection in urban areas, as well as high-speed vehicle detection capabilities, which is more in line with China’s complex road conditions.

According to the official, Huawei’s 96-line medium and long-range lidar product can meet the following requirements: a wide field of view of 120°X25°, which can meet the requirements of people and vehicles in urban areas and high-speed scenes; in the full field of view, the horizontal and vertical harnesses are evenly distributed, there is no splicing, jitter, etc., forming a stable point cloud is very friendly to the back-end perception algorithm; small size, suitable for the needs of front-mounted mass-produced vehicles.

It is reported that ARCFOX HBT will be equipped with three 96-wire car-gauge lidars, 6 millimeter wave radars, 12 cameras, 13 ultrasonic radars, and a Huawei chip with a computing power of up to 352Tops.

Lidar is already a trend in cars. In addition to ARCFOX, Changan Automobile will also use Huawei’s Lidar in the future. In addition, Xpeng Motors, Zhiji Auto, etc. will also use lidar technology in the future. The release of a automotive-grade lidar that can be mass-produced has given Huawei another step in the automotive industry. In addition, Huawei also has a layout in the development of EIC system and in-vehicle intelligent systems. Let us wait for the implementation of these technologies.
