On December 22, 2023, BYD announced that it will build an electric vehicle (EV) production base in Szeged, Hungary. The base will be built in phases and is expected to create thousands of jobs in the local area.

The company said that the new base will use the latest global manufacturing technologies and processes, and will be a global leader in EV production. The construction of the base will help to boost the local economy, promote technology exchanges and innovation between China and Hungary, and help to build a green “ecosystem” in the region.

Hungary is located in the heart of Europe and is a major transportation hub. The country has a long history of automotive manufacturing, with a developed infrastructure and a mature automotive industry. These factors make Hungary an ideal location for BYD to build a factory.

Since 2021, BYD has expanded its international presence to 59 countries and regions. In November 2023, the company exported 30,629 new energy passenger vehicles, which was more than one-third of the total number of new energy passenger vehicles produced in China that month.
